Located in Dufftown on Speyside, The Balvenie distillery may be humble in appearance, but inside is a palace dedicated to the time-honored craft of whisky making. Nowhere else in Scotland will you find a distillery that still grows its own barley, still malts in its own traditional floor maltings and still has its own dedicated coopers and coppersmith. The exceptional quality of The Balvenie Single Malt Scotch Whisky owes much to one of its other in-house craftsman, Malt Master David Stewart, whose unmatched expertise ensures that each expression of The Balvenie range makes the absolute best of the complex alchemy of spirit, wood and time.

Located in the "Heart of Speyside," in the North-East region of Morayshire, BenRiach displays all the traditional charm of a Speyside distillery. Built by John Duff in 1898, this distillery was operational for just two years before the "Pattison Crash" in 1900 resulted in a period of hardship for the entire whisky industry. As a result, BenRiach fell silent, and remained so for 65 years. When reopened, the vision was to establish BenRiach as a premium, high-quality Speyside malt. Today, BenRiach portrays its own uniqueness through the methods used to craft the whisky, the ingredients, the distinctive copper stills and the casks selected for maturation.

Caol Ila, pronounced “Cull Eela,” is a remote distillery situated on the rugged eastern coast, where it has remained hidden from view since 1846. However difficult it may be to reach, generations of islanders at the distillery have produced fine, smoky whisky that is well worth exploring.

Back in 2000, John Glaser believed there were too many companies making and selling Scotch whisky the same way. An American, transplanted to the UK, he set up a different kind of Scotch whisky company, based on the long-lost model of the Scotch whisky blending house, but with a forward-looking approach and an unrelenting desire to create quality. He originally launched the business from his kitchen, but today, more than a decade later, Compass Box has an office and Blending Room in London, its own stocks of maturing whiskies in Scotland and just over a dozen employees.

The Dalmore story began in 1839 in a place where no one else dared to venture for Scotch–the banks of the Cromarty Firth. Distilled in the path of the harsh winds of the North Sea, The Dalmore braves the conditions because the natural resources of the area produced a special whisky known for its unique character and taste. A variety of exceptional casks–including Marsala barrels from Sicily–infuse The Dalmore with the rich, warm flavors that Scotch lovers have come to expect over the last 150 years.

Founded in 1826 by James Allardice, The GlenDronach Distillery is situated in the Scottish Highlands. Producing richly sherried single malts for nearly 200 years, it all began with Allardice’s “Guid GlenDronach” single malt. In 1968, GlenDronach’s popularity grew as it was released as a single malt brand for the first time. The BenRiach Distillery Company became GlenDronach’s new owner in 2008, and it was named the Global Whisky Distiller of the Year at the 2015 Icons of Whisky Awards.

In 1887, when the first drop of spirit flowed out of Glenfiddich’s copper stills, William Grant fulfilled his lifelong ambition of creating "the best dram in the valley." It was a dream he accomplished with the help of his nine children and a single stone mason, who together built the distillery by hand, stone-by-stone in Speyside’s Valley of the Deer: Glenfiddich. To this day, Glenfiddich remains one few single malt distilleries to remain entirely family owned and is now the World's Most Awarded Single Malt Scotch Whisky, a true reflection of the founder’s innovative nature, passed down through the generations.

Highland Park is made today with the same enduring belief, integrity and exacting standards as it has been since 1798. The established attitude at Highland Park is one of custodianship rather than management, of tradition rather than novelty. Highland Park is one of only a handful of distilleries that still retains a traditional malting floor and uses sweet, heathery peat from its Orkney Island home. The distillery still uses Oak casks seasoned with dry Oloroso sherry and harmonizes its fully matured batches for up to six months, marrying them together for a final layer of complexity and a balanced finish.

In early 19th century Scotland, a young grocer named John Walker grew unsatisfied with the unreliable whiskies available at the time. He wanted his customers to enjoy the same quality and flavor in their whisky year after year. So he began to blend the best whiskies together until he produced a whisky he was happy to put his name to: Johnnie Walker.

In 1742 there were at least ten illicit stills at Lagavulin, and it would be another 74 years until local farmer John Johnston founded the first legal distillery, in sight of Dunyvaig Castle. Its name may have changed over the years, but the quiet power of peat and smoke that pervades this masculine malt has not.

Founded in 1824 in the heart of Speyside, The Macallan was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to be legally licensed. From its founding, through the subsequent owners of The Macallan distillery in the 19thand 20th centuries and into the present century, The Macallan has been recognized for its outstanding quality and innovation above all else. Its curiously small copper stills and dedication to using only the most exception Oak casks selected by Master of Wood, Stuart MacPherson, are just a few of the reasons The Macallan maintains worldwide fame.

The youngest of The Singleton distilleries by a year, Glendullan brings a light, delicate, greenwood flavor to the family of three. This is the gift of the American oak casks, the insides of which the liquid caresses to yield a whisky with the subtle softness of fresh orchard fruits.

Talisker is the only Single Malt Scotch Whisky made by the sea on the shores of the Isle of Skye, one of the most remote, rugged, yet beautiful landscapes in Scotland. Few whiskies tell the story of their origin better than Talisker. Its smell and taste instantly connect the drinker with the rugged environment – like a warm welcome from a wild sea. It’s a powerhouse: challenging but adored, once discovered rarely left.

Established in 1897 during the Victorian Whisk Boom, Tomatin’s whisky production is thought to date back to the 1400s. The name “Tomatin,” which translates to “Hill of the Juniper Bush,” is thought to give insight into the area’s history of illicit whisky production. Juniper wood gives off no smoke while burning, and was often used by illicit distillers attempting to conceal their practice. Tomatin went from two stills in 1956 to 23 by 1974, making it the largest distillery in Scotland at the time. That success, however, came to a halt in the 1980s, and Tomatin underwent two liquidations. Takara Shuzo – Japan’s largest drinks producer and Tomatin’s biggest customer – joined forces with the respected trading company Okura and purchased Tomatin, forming the Tomatin Distillery Company Ltd and thus creating the first fully Japanese-owned Scottish distillery in 1986. Today, Tomatin’s range of single malts is sold in more than 50 export markets.
